Pakkavud is made by selecting hardwood veneer and impregnating it with thermosetting phenolic resins and sometimes paint. This composite material becomes very hard and dense due to extreme temperatures and pressures. The final product may in some cases look very similar to natural wood, depending on the intention of the maker. In most cases the knife handles use Pacavud, which is as close as possible to natural wood, and some stains can even be added to imitate ordinary hardwood, such as oak, walnut and others.
In a rather eccentric category, hollywoods can even appear as a new kind of tree when certain stains are added to create nice patterns or flowers. Some examples are products with multiple colors or even products that look like camouflage. Depending on the stains used, they can even give the appearance of a product made from wood of foreign species.
By grinding and polishing Packavud gives the blade a natural shine without having to spray the product. In the end Pakavud gives you the same look as finished wood, but with properties that do not occur in nature. Its durability, water resistance and beauty make it an attractive alternative to natural wood in many applications.
